Strategic Tech Roadmap & Client Solutions Workshop
Teams collaboratively develop a comprehensive technology roadmap for a hypothetical or real SMB client seeking a Fractional CTO's guidance. The roadmap must align technology strategy with business goals, address current pain points, and propose growth initiatives such as digital transformation, scalability improvements, or new product launches. This project will challenge you to apply strategic leadership, client management, operational setup, and continuous growth principles in a collaborative, real-world simulation. Steps for Organizing the Group Work: 1. Client Briefing & Requirements Gathering (Week 1): As a team, define a hypothetical SMB client. What industry are they in? What are their current tech challenges and business goals? Brainstorm and document initial client requirements. 2. Define Goals & Draft Strategic Priorities (Week 2): Based on the client's needs, define clear, measurable goals for the technology roadmap. Draft strategic priorities that align technology initiatives with these business goals. 3. Design & Validate Technology Roadmap & Architecture (Week 3): Design a high-level technology roadmap, including proposed solutions, key milestones, and technology choices. Outline the system architecture and justify your technical decisions. 4. Prepare Final Presentation & Deliver Strategic Recommendations (Week 4): Compile your findings into a comprehensive presentation. Clearly articulate your strategic recommendations to the "client," demonstrating how your proposed roadmap will address their pain points and drive growth. Suggested Roles: Project Lead (Fractional CTO): Oversees strategy alignment and client communication. Business Analyst: Gathers client requirements and defines business objectives. Technical Architect: Designs high-level system architecture and technology choices. Operations Strategist: Plans operational processes, team structures, and toolsets. Growth & Innovation Specialist: Identifies continuous improvement and innovation opportunities. Collaboration Tools: Slack or Microsoft Teams: For daily communication and quick discussions. Miro or Lucidspark: For collaborative roadmap mapping and visual brainstorming. Google Docs/Sheets: For documentation, data analysis, and shared reports. Zoom or Google Meet: For presentations and "stakeholder" meetings.
